Baringo County Government is set to spend Sh 250 million to set up an abattoir and a tannery in Baringo South and Mogotio Sub-Counties respectively.
The County Government is working in partnership with the European Union and World bank with both entities providing the funding for the projects.
The move to establish the slaughterhouse and the animal hide tanner is aimed to increase benefits gained from value addition products.
Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis said the facilities will be of the highest standard to deliver quality.
“The facilities are commercially driven ventures and will be of international standards. The two facilities will be supported by Loruk and Barwessa Slaughter houses” said Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis.
Governor Kiptis added that the projects are envisaged to create direct employment to over 500 people and improve income to over 350,000 livestock farmers mainly in Tiaty, Baringo North, Baringo South and Mogotio.
