Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly procured Kshs. 6.9 million kitchen equipment that have not been put to use since 2015.
The equipment which includes furniture was supposed to be installed in the cafeteria. However the construction of the cafeteria has since stalled.
“A physical verification done 22nd November 2017 revealed that items purchased were still in store and had not been installed and were not being used and continue to depreciate,”reads part of the Auditor General report for the financial year 2016/17.
According to the Auditor General, the Assembly didn’t get value for money for that expenditure.
“The procurement was therefore done without any specific user requirement and the expenditure of Kshs. 6.9 million arising from the procurement was unnecessary,” the Auditor General Edward Ouko added in his report.
The construction of the cafeteria was expected to be complete by June 2016.
However a physical verification by the office of the Auditor General revealed that the project has not been completed and behind schedule by 17 months.
