Emgwen Member of Parliament Alex Kosgey has said he will vote against the two thirds gender bill.
Speaking during the JKL TV interview, Kosgey said the National Assembly Leader of Majority has brought the exact same bill that was rejected in the eleventh parliament.
“I am on record that I voted against the bill then. We will also reject it this time for the same reasons; nobody wants to increase the size of parliament,”said Kosgey.
Kosgey said there is a general feeling that the country is over-represented. He also pointed out that the country’s wage bill is becoming unsustainable.
The lawmaker said there was a better way to ensure progress for women rather than through the two thirds gender bill.
He hit out at Duale terming it ‘an insanity’ to bring the same bill that was rejected in the last parliament expecting a different result.
The legislator who is serving his second term said the bill was against the popular ‘punguza mzigo, punda imechoka’ initiative.
“You can’t pass something that the verse majority of Kenyans do not want,”said Kosgey.
Kosgey added that the passage of the bill will raise the number of seats for women by about 60-70, a move he said will bring a no-go effect on the wage bill and the country’s debt.
“Why on earth does that the Leader of Majority(Duale) and those around him insist on pushing something that they know is not popular?”Kosgey wondered.
