West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyangapuo has urged women in the county to invest in real estate.
Speaking in Kong’elai during a fundraiser in aid of Asacha Yoo SILC group, Governor Lonyangapuo said savings and investments will help change the economic status of women.
“Through your economic empowerment groups you can save and invest in real estate,”said Lonyangapuo.
The Governor lauded Asacha Yoo group for their plan to purchase a tipper lorry to ferry sand.
He encouraged women to develop a culture of saving saying this will transform their lives economically.
The county boss further challenged men to join Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC) groups in order to improve the economy of the community.
SILC is a programme of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in partnership with the Catholic Church.
The main objective of the SILC programme is to enable the economically active poor, especially women to develop their own reliable financial services and to support community self reliance and resilience.
Governor Lonyangapuo was accompanied by Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, Women Rep Lilian Tomitom, Former Kacheliba MP Peter Nang’ole, MCAs David Alukulem(Riwo) and Robert Komole(Suam).
