Turkana County hosted the first ever desert boxing championships over the weekend.
Speaking during the opening of the championships organised by the Kenya Proffesional Boxing Commission(KPBC), Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok said they were proud as a county to host the competition.
“We are proud to host the first ever boxing match in Turkana. This is part of our investment to grow sport in the county,”said Nanok.
The championships saw Rukia Nasirite, who hails from Turkana County, win the UBO lightweight title.
Through a unanimous decision by the judges, Rukia emerged victorious against Tanzanian Asha Abubakar.
