The Council of Governors (CoG) has demanded for the immediate reinstatement of the West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo’s security detail.
In a statement issued by the Chairman Josphat Nanok, the Council said the withdrawal of Lonyangapuo’s security was done without formal communication.
“The Council of Governors strongly condemns the recent withdrawal of security detail attached to Prof. John Lonyagapuo,”read part of the statement.
“We note that the Governor’s body guards have been withdrawn from his official residence without notice. To this moment, no explanation of the same has been communicated,” the statement by the CoG chair reads.
CoG said the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett must take action in the matter, and seek to formally communicate to the Governor and immediately replace the officers.
Governor Lonyangapuo’s security detail was withdrawn after he stormed a police roadblock and forcefully freed a boda boda rider who had been arrested for allegedly flouting traffic rules.
His bodyguards and the security officers deployed at the governor’s home and office were all recalled sparking a public outrage in the county.
