Deputy President Dr William Ruto on Friday hosted leaders from the Elgeyo Marakwet and Baringo County Assemblies at his Sugoi home.
The MCAs from the two North Rift counties were led by Governor Stanley Kiptis and County Assembly Speakers David Kerich(Baringo) and Kiplagat Sabulei(Elgeyo Marakwet).
Also present during the meeting was Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui.
The meeting with MCAs is seen as a move by the Deputy President to consolidate his political base.
Dr Ruto has specifically chosen to focus on the Members of County Assemblies in an intensified campaign to strengthen his grassroots support.
During the meeting the Deputy President is said to have assured MCAs that he will work closely with them.
He noted that development will be elusive if leaders are not united.
“As MCAs you are leaders at the grassroots who are well placed to help the Government implement its development projects, especially the Big Four agenda. We will work together for the sake of now and the future,” he said.
The Deputy President had in the recent past stated that he will oppose any proposal to scrap the MCA seat.
