President Uhuru Kenyatta is today launching the new currency in accordance with the 2010 constitution.
The President arrived at the Central Bank of (CBK) to officiate the launch of the new generation currency.
“We shall also be unveiling a set of new generation coins which are compliant with our 2010 constitution. I am extremely pleased that today we can achieve another milestone,”said President Kenyatta.
The new coins that depict the Kenyan tourism, economic engagements, culture and tourism, will begin to circulate from today.
“I am informed that the new generation coins continue the tradition of depicting an aspect that best describes our country,” he added.
Despite the introduction of the new look currency, the old currency in use before the new law was implemented will still be used as legal tender.
