Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has asked the government to waive fees for university students to lessen the burden on parents.
The legislator noted that parents are being burdened by being forced to pay fees for university students. He said the huge amounts of university fees have forced some bright needy students to regularly defer their studies.
“I am asking the government to consider extending free education to higher institutions of learning, especially for those pursuing degrees, as a way of reducing the burden on parents,” said the lawmaker.
Amisi disclosed that he will be tabling a motion seeking to have free education extended to universities, when Parliament resumes sittings.
The legislator spoke in Kitale on Saturday after a meeting with more than 500 University students drawn from Saboti Constituency.
