Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said the Sh1.3 billion Kipkaren Dam Water Project will boost water supply in Eldoret town and its environs.
Governor Mandago said the water project will pump in an additional 23,000 cubic meters of water daily.
He pointed out the project will cover water provisions in Kapseret, Langas and Kipkenyo ward.
“This project is going to give us 23,000 cubic metres per day. It will serve 80-90 per cent of Langas and 60-70 per cent of Kapseret and Kipkenyo wards,”said Mandago.
A local contractor, Machiri Construction Limited, has been awarded the contract to undertake the project that is expected to be complete 20 months.
The County Boss lauded the Rift Valley Water Services Board (RVWSB) and Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB) for sourcing a local contractor. He said there was need to prioritise local contractors with capacity to undertake projects.
Governor Mandago was accompanied by Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno, Rift Valley Water Services Board Chief Executive, Eng. Hosea Wendot and a host of Members of County Assembly during the site visit.
The County boss said the project is also expected to build the capacity of youth who have undertaken water related courses.
“For the period that this project will be on, we expect to bring in interns to be trained,”said Mandago.
