Nandi County Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has asked Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to resign over delays in the importation of subsidised fertiliser.
Speaking on Monday in Mosop County, the Senator said the CS has become a threat to the country’s food security and should quit.
“If you are unable to run the ministry you should resign and let other able Kenyans take the job,”said Cherargei.
This follows a revelation by the Agriculture Ministry that the government is likely not to purchase subsidised fertiliser for farmers.
CS Kiunjuri said there are challenges in procurement and asked farmers to be prepared if there will be no subsidy fertiliser.
However, the Nandi Senator said the Agriculture Ministry should have warned farmers earlier for them to be prepared.
The lawmaker said Food Security was a key pillar of the Big Four Agenda and therefore maize farmers must be protected.
