Trans Nzoia County Governor Patrick Khaemba has asked the national museums to fast-pace the transfer of Kitale museum to be managed by the County Government.
Governor Khaemba who hosted the National Museums of Kenya Director General Dr Mzalendo Kibunja, said the new Constitution places museums under the county leadership.
In his response, Dr Kibunja pointed out that plans were at an advance stage to devolve the management of the facility.
He said relevant policies were already in place to relinquish the management of the museums to devolved units.
During the meeting the leaders also discussed measures aimed at giving the Kitale museum a face-lift.
The County boss said his administration will also support efforts by the national museums of Kenya to repossess parcels of land grabbed from its facility in Kitale.
“We will collaborate with the relevant authorities to support the reclamation of grabbed land,”Khaemba assured.
The Kitale museum, which exhibits a myriad artefacts and various flora and fauna, attracts a crop of tourists from across the country and beyond its borders.
Devolving the facility will ensure more revenue generation from the county adding to its resource basket.
