World Marathon Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge has received a nomination in the Laureus World Sports Awards to be held next month.
Joining Kipchoge in the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year category is France Footballer Kylian Mbappe, Croatian Footballer Luka Modroc, USA Basketball player Lebron James, UK motor racing ace Lewis Hamilton and Serbian Tennis star Novak Djokovic.
“Honoured to be listed among these great athletes who all had such incredible performances!” Kipchoge posted on his official Facebook page.
Kipchoge had an outstanding year and was last week named the Male Sports Personality of the Year.
The fastest male marathoner on the planet who uncorked the scarcely believable 2:01:39 world record at the 2018 BMW Berlin Marathon last September is also the reigning IAAF Male Athlete and UN Person of the Year.
The Rio 2016 Olympic gold winner was also named the AIMS Male Marathoner and Citus Magazine Male Athlete of the Year in tribute to a magic year where he fell short of breaking the previous record of 2:02:57 when he stormed to his third London Marathon title last April.
Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognises sports achievement during 2018, are the premier honours on International sporting calendar.
The winners, as voted for by the 66 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, will be unveiled in Monaco on February 28.
