Turkana County Governor Josphat Nanok has called on the National Government to treat the security crisis along the Turkana-Pokot with firm and immediate action.
In a statement through his Communication Director, John Emeripus, Governor Nanok said the lack of strong action against those involved in the renewed attacks has emboldened the resolve of criminals.
Governor Nanok said there is grave danger that impunity will take root if the attackers go unpunished.
“Governor Nanok calls on the National Government, through Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett to treat this situation as a security crisis that demands immediate and firm response,”Emeripus said in the statement.
Nanok said the perpetrators of the attacks, who he termed as internal terrorists belong to prison and should not be left to roam free.
“It is his belief that the continued lack of strong action has so far emboldened the resolve of criminals carrying out the attacks as witnesses through brazen attacks of police posts in the area,”he added.
