Legendary long distance runner Paul Tergat has been appointed the chairperson of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council for a period of three years.
In Gazette notice No. 1212, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Tergat to head the body which has been neglected since it was formed.
Tergat’s appointment will take effect from 18th March of this year.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 35 (1)(a) of the Sports Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of
the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint—
to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 18th March, 2019,”read the Gazette notice.
The former athlete became the the first Kenyan to set the World Record in Marathon from 2003 to 2007.
