Elgeyo Marakwet Nominated MCA Emily Kirop appears unrepentant for her manoeuvre to list her daughter as an orphan in order to secure KSh 80,000 bursary fund.
Kirop has insisted that MCAs’ children are also entitled to bursaries. She said there is no law that bars them from applying for the funds.
“Is there a rule that bars MCAs’ children from getting bursaries? If there is one, I have not heard about it,” she said.
In the County, nominated MCAs are each allocated KSh 80,000 to be awarded to bright and needy students from respective wards.
Kirop argued that she has been unfairly targeted adding that the bursary claim is a political fight with the aim of tarnishing her name.
The nominated county lawmaker, reportedly listed her daughter, who studies at Moi University, as a bright and needy orphan.
Locals have demanded investigations into the matter pointing out that the MCA gave false information and used her influence to secure bursary for her daughter, leaving out genuine bright and needy students.
