Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has said the maize taskforce did not make a decision in the setting up of KSh 2300 per 90Kg bag price.
The taskforce constituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta is led by Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiunjuri , Governor Khaemba and his Uasin Gishu counterpart Jackson Mandago.
It was given a month to come up with recommendations that will help in addressing the outstanding issues, and bring to an end the untold suffering of peasant farmers.
However, Governor Khaemba said the taskforce was not given the chance to contribute to the pricing decision.
“We were meant to sit and propose to the government our take concerning the maize prices but before we gave the report, the price was announced,”said Khaemba.
The maize price, which was approved by the Cabinet last week in a meeting chaired by President Kenyatta at State House Nairobi, has been met with considerable opposition.
Khaemba said the price approved by Cabinet was low and that they will directly appeal to President Kenyatta to review it.
