Governor Patrick Khaemba on Thursday witnessed the signing of contract towards the implementation of Kshs. 1.2 billion Kiptogot- Kolongolo water project.
Governor Khaemba who spoke during the signing of the contract at Maji House, disclosed that his administration had already conducted the feasibility study, environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA), geotechnical survey and design works for the project.
He said in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and the African Development Bank (AfDB), his administration has been seeking funding to ensure that the plan is actualized, to ensure that residents access clean piped water.
“The implementation will be supervised by the Rift Valley Water Services Board (RVWSB) on behalf of the Lake Victoria North Water Services Board (LVNWSB), and ultimately handed over to the county government to be run by a service provider for the benefit of our people,”he said.
Khaemba said this was one of the flagship projects in his manifesto and County Integrated Development Plan(CIDP).
The project is earmarked to serve 160,000 of citizens in Endebess and Kwanza Sub Counties. It will have a capacity of 16,000 cubic metres per day. The construction is projected to last 20 months and a defect liability period of 12 months at a cost is Kshs. 1.2 billion.
The County boss said during the first term in office, they have managed to double access to clean water from 18% to 35%.
“In this second term we are working hard to increase access from 35% to over 70%,” he added.
