Deputy President William Ruto has today graduated from the University of Nairobi with a doctorate degree.
Ruto was among thousands of graduands from the prestigious institution with a rare honours in academia.
President Kenyatta attended the graduation to congratulate his Deputy for the achievement.
This means that from today the Deputy President ,who has been studied for six years and who calls himself a ‘hustler’ will now be referred to as Dr William Samoei Ruto.
The Deputy President graduated with a PhD in plant ecology and the title of his thesis is ‘Influence of human activities on land use changes on environmental quality of riparian ecosystems: A case study of Saiwa Swamp watershed, Western Kenya’.
In 2016, Dr Ruto failed to graduate because he had not met all the coursework requirements. The DP has a Bachelor’s degree in botany and zoology and a Master’s degree in plant ecology.
Dr Ruto graduated with a degree in Botany and Zoology from the institution in 1990 and a subsequent masters degree in Environmental Science in 2011.
Throughout Africa only few politicians such as Robert Mugabe, late Prof. John Arthur Mills of Ghana ever achieved a PhD while or before clinching leadership.
