Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba has called for the disbandment of the National Cereals and Produce Board(NCPB).
Speaking when during maize taskforce public participation in Kitale, Governor Khaemba said there was need to form another board that will take care of farmers interests.
He said the current board has been infiltrated by cartels trading at the expense of farmers.
“The current board is full of cartels who sell their produce at the expense of genuine farmers,”said Khaemba.
The County boss also proposed that more money be allocated to a newly formed NCPB for the direct procurement of fertiliser from industries.
He said the reliance of traders importing fertiliser has become a burden to farmers since the process has also been hijacked by cartels.
He said cartels are importing fertiliser and selling it at exorbitant prices to farmers.
