Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has called for the consideration of former athletes to Sports Boards.
Speaking during the National cross country trials at the Eldoret Sports Club, Governor Mandago said former athletes should be given state appointments.
“We want to request you(Deputy President William Ruto) and President Kenyatta to appoint former athletes to the Sports Boards because they will help us with the technical aspect in those boards,”said Mandago.
Governor Mandago said a number of retired sports men are people who have also excelled in the academic field.
Mandago gave an example of Patrick Sang, who is the coach of World Marathon Record Holder Eliud Kipchoge and Legendary athlete John Ngugi.
He said those with sports interest will bring change in the management of sports boards.
Governor Mandago at the same time urged State to fast track the construction of stadiums in the region.
“As North Rift Counties, we request the National Government to fast track the construction of stadiums in the region,”said Mandago.
He said once the stadiums are complete, the region will bid to host an international sports event.
