Senate Majority Leader and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed the arrest of Treasury CS Henry Rotich over the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal as a public relations exercise.
Speaking at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, Murkomen claimed that the arrest of CS Rotich was deliberately intended to settle short-term political interests.
“What I have seen is that we are not fighting corruption but rather lying to Kenyan citizens that we are fighting corruption; in reality, we are just exercising PR stunts given the evidence on the ground / games behind the scenes,” said Murkomen.
“Arrests are so swift in this country but when you ask for charges to be preferred then it takes long; they have had these persons since morning and we have asked the DCI to charge them in court but are not ready to do so this afternoon,” he added.
CS Rotich was arrested after presenting himself to the police following an arrest order by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
CS Rotich, PS Kamau Thugge and 26 other officers are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
