Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba on Wednesday disbursed Sh65 million World Bank grant to farmers under the National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project.
The funds will benefit 198 farmers groups in the county under the five year programme that seeks to empower small scale farmers including those who rear poultry – through financing, capacity building and technical support.
Governor Khaemba lauded the programme noting that it will empower rural communities through community-driven development committees.
He said apart from the World Bank fund, the county also gave Sh11 million, all of which was disbursed to the communities.
“We have pumped in Sh11 million in support of the project to empower farmers so they can earn better living through agricultural ventures,” said Khaemba.
NARIGP’s key objectives include supporting community-driven development, strengthening producer organizations and value chain development as well as supporting county community-led development.
Others include project coordination, planning and finance activities related to national and county-level project coordination.
