Baringo County assembly has rejected the proposed Punguza Mzigo bill fronted by the Third Way Alliance party.
The ward representatives voted 25 to 13 against the bill after an heated debated.
Led by Kipruto Kimosop(Mochongoi), the chair to the House Committee on Delegated Legislation, those against the Dr. Ekuru Aukot sponsored bill said more consultation with members of public should have been conducted before it was forwarded to the Electoral Commission.
Bartabwa Ward Rep Reuben Chepsongol argued that the bill would lead to unemployment if adopted and implemented. He cited nominations which he said has benefited minority communities.
Barwessa MCA Richard Rono and his Ewalel Chapchap Counterpart Peter Kebut led those in support of the bill.
Others who supported the bill include; Ernest Kibet (Kabarnet), Nixon Lemlem (Marigat), and Betty Birchogo (Nominated).
Baringo now joins the long list of county assemblies that have rejected the bill. Uasin Gishu is the only assembly that has voted in support of Punguza Mzigo.
