Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny on Friday visited the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director General, Zachary Mwangi, to seek answers over the delay in payments to census enumerators.
In a post on social media, Kutuny stated that he queried why a section of enumerators, are yet to receive a penny from the government for services rendered.
“In a one hour closed door meeting I had to ask hard questions as to why enumerators who were fully committed in ensuring 2019 census exercise haven’t been paid,”said Kutuny.
The lawmaker said the Director General has assured him that all the enumerators will have been paid by next week.
Some enumerators in Trans Nzoia and Uasin Gishu counties held protests early this week, accusing KNBS of failing to honour their pledge to pay them.
Kutuny challenged KNBS to honour their pledge on prompt pay, pointing out that majority of those who were hired to undertake the census exercise are unemployed youth and students.
