Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot’s Punguza Mzigo bill has been rejected by the Nandi County Assembly.
The bill was tabled before the House by Chairperson of the Delegated Committee David Bwambok.
In a unanimous vote, MCAs rejected the bill saying it does not augur well with the views of member of public.
Kapsabet Ward MCA Fred Kipkemboi is among the few members who supported the bill. According to the ward rep, nominations to county assembly, national assembly and the senate should be scrapped.
However majority of the MCAs including Kipkirui Chepkwony(Tinderet), Clara Chepkemei, (Nominated), Cornelius Kibet(Nominated), Paul Sanga(Chepkunyuk), Walter Teno(Kabiyet), Robert Kirwa(Chemundu) opposed the bill saying they were against the reduction of constituencies in the county.
Nandi County now joins other Counties such as Kericho, Nakuru, Homa Bay, Murang’a and Kirinyaga that have already rejected the Bill.
Uasin Gishu is the only county that has since passed the bill which requires 24 counties to pass in order for it to be tabled in parliament and consequently result in a referendum.
