The County Government of Nandi has now banned food hawking in Kapsabet town following a directive by Governor Stephen Sang.
In a statement, the County Public Health Officer Linus Kogo said the ban notice takes effect immediately.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Food Drugs and Chemical Substance Act. Cap 254 section 7 prohibits the preparation of foods under unsanitary conditions and it cleary states that any person who sells, prepares, packages, stores or displays for sale any food under unsanitary conditions shall be guilty of an offense, “read the notice.
According to the ban notice, police officers and county enforcement unit will begin enforcing the restrictions against hawking.
On Wednesday, Governor Sang ordered that public health and municipality laws be strictly adhered to.
He directed that hawking of foodstuffs be prohibited forthwith in Kapsabet town.
The Governor also warned those who have erected illegal structures on wayleaves to vacate.
