Two Petitioners who unsuccessfully challenged the election victory of Trans Nzoia Patrick Khaemba can now breathe a sigh of relief after Kitale High Court reduced the amount in costs to Sh 2 million.
The High Court in Kitale had last year while dismissing the election petition against Khaemba, ordered the petitioners to pay Sh10 million in costs
The costs had been broken down to; Sh5 million to be paid to the IEBC and Sh5 million to be paid to Governor Khaemba.
However on Tuesday, Kitale High Court lowered the costs and ordered them to pay Sh 1 million to Governor Khaemba within 30 days.
High Court Judge Hillary Chemitei further ordered Robinson Simuyu Mwanga and Alpha Kitazi Chore to pay IEBC and its lawyer Bilha Kiptugen Sh1 million to cover costs of the petition.
“It is hereby ordered that the applicants do pay Sh 1 million to the 1st and 2nd respondents and Sh 1 million to the 3rd respondents(Governor Khaemba) respectively within the next 30 days from the date herein,”read the court order issued on 5th.
The petition against Governor Khaemba’s win was struck out by Kitale High Court in February last year.
