Kacheliba MP Mark Lomunokol has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to postponed the implementation of the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) report.
Speaking during the requiem mass of victims of landslide victims in Makutono Stadium, West Pokot county, Lomunokol said the funds that has been set aside for the implementation of the report be diverted to build roads and schools destroyed by floods.
The lawmaker said the effects of floods that have been witnessed in several parts of the country need urgent attention.
He said over 130 lives have been lost and thousands displaced due to floods and should be declared a National disaster.
“As we speak today records indicate that over 130 people have died due to floods. What you should do is to postponed the BBI report indefinitely, we will implement it when things go back to normal,” said the lawmaker.
Lomunokol said it was disheartening that some bodies are still trapped in mud and the President has not even visited the county.
According to the County Government, 16 people are still missing. The catastrophe left more than 10,000 people displaced and are now camping in Nyarkulian, Lolwei, Muino and Parua.
