Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) Captain Mike Cheruiyot has won the 2019 Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) Golf Trophy in a tournament held at Kenya Air Force Golf Club in Moi Air Base, Nairobi.
Captain Cheruiyot, playing handicap 28 won with a total of 38 points; winning 16 points in the First Nine Holes followed by 22 in the Second Nine Holes.
The tournament was presided over by Commander Kenya Air Force and Patron of the KDF Golf Association Major General Francis Ogolla who represented the CDF, General Samson Mwathethe.
In his remarks, Chairman of Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association Brigadier James Githaga thanked the event sponsors and congratulated the winners, adding that KDF will from next year start a golf mentoring programme for KDF family members, in particular youths, with an aim of demystifying the game.
During the tournament, the players comprised golfers from various golf clubs within Nairobi and across the Country, including retired General Officers.
Other winners included Sergeant Haron Wanyama (Bigginers’ Military Category), Engineer Sammy Muita from Muthaiga Golf Club (Longest Drive Men), Nancy Wairimu of Ngong Golf Club (Longest Drive Women), Mr Andrew Karuga (Nearest to the Pin), Owinow Oyugi Junior (Guest Winner) and Margret Kalekye (Lady Overall Winner).
Present during the award ceremony were General Retired Officers, Serving Senior Military Officers, Officers, Service Members, Vivo Energy Officials and golfers from various clubs.
