Rivatex East Africa on Wednesday made donations to landslide victims in West Pokot County.
The donations which comprised of lessos, bedsheets and other collections was handed over to the county women representative Lilian Tomitom at Rivatex offices by the Managing Director Professor Thomas Kipkurgat.
Speaking during the event, Professor Kipkurgat stressed the need for citizens to step in and assist victims of landslide saying the heavy downpour is likely to continue and observed that there is need for more funding towards disaster preparedness in the country.
“We have made the donations bearing in mind that the most affected are women and children and they deserve our attention. The fabric will assist them from the cold even as heavy rains continue to be witnessed in most parts of the country,” he said.
The Managing Director used the opportunity to condole with the citizens of West Pokot who lost their lives during the landslide tragedy.
On her part, Tomitom lauded Rivatex for the donation saying it will assist the victims who require urgent care.
“We are happy for the warm gesture you have showed the people of West Pokot. The disaster that befell us was unexpected and we still call on Kenyans to continue supporting us so that we can overcome. Our cry is for women and children who are currently in the cold,” she added.
