Nandi County Senator Kiprotich Cherargei on Wednesday said the National Government should brief the Senate on stalled road projects.
The legislator sought a statement from the House Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation over a number of road projects that have since stalled in Nandi County.
The road works that have stalled include Chemuswo-danger, Kaiboi-Chepterwai, Nandi Hills-Himaki and Kesses-Lessos road.
“In the statement the committee should explain why the construction of Chemuswo-Danger road in Chesumei constituency, Kaiboi-Chepterwai road in Mosop Constituency , Nandi Hills-Himaki in Nandi Hills constituency, Kesses-Lessos road in both Kesses and Nandi Hills constituencies have stalled,” said Cherargei.
He also demanded that the committee explain reasons for the removal of contractors that were working on the said roads whose construction works have stalled.
Senator Cherargei also queried the fate of the contracts awarded to contractors for road projects that have failed to take off
He further sought to know the interventions that have been taken by the National Government to ensure that construction of the roads continues without much delay.
Some of the contracts had been initially awarded to engineering firm Civicon, a subsidiary of TransCentury, but late last year they were edged out by China Railways No. 10
