Uasin Gishu County Senator Prof Margaret Kamar has been awarded for her role towards achievement of food security.
Senator Kamar bagged the Shujaa Award by Mzalendo.com. The award recognises outstanding leaders who champion important issues through legislation in Parliament.
“The Peoples Shujaaz Awards for the Food Security Category goes to Uasin Gishu Senator, Senator (Prof) Margaret Kamar,” read a statement by Mzalendo.
The legislator was feted for her statement addressing the maize crisis in the country.
“The Ad-Hoc Committee On Maize Crisis Chairperson garnered a total of 1, 642 votes,” said Mzalendo.com.
Prof Kamar made history as one of the three women who were for the first time elected into the Senate. She has previously served as the Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology and currently holds membership in the Pan-African Parliament.
She had been nominated in the Food Security category alongside Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot who garnered 573 votes and Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi, 289 votes.
