Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has won the People’s Shujaa award.
The award, which was given by Mzalendo.com, recognised the strategic role the lawmaker played in championing land acquisition for public schools.
The accolade dubbed ‘People’s Shujaaz Award’ was awarded to the lawmaker following his motion on the establishment of policy guidelines on acquisition of land for expansion of public schools.
In his motion, the legislator observed that that land is one of the most important resources in Kenya from which the country generates goods and services, and a source of livelihood for many people.
He also recognized that land is a scarce resource which is highly sought for various economic and commercial purposes leaving little or no space for establishment of social amenities, including learning institutions.
Kositany garnered 475 votes to win the award. He had been nominated in the land category with MPs Michael Kingi (429 votes) and Jayne Kihara(222 votes).
Mzalendo’s Shujaa Awards recognizes leaders by focusing on their legislation, oversight and representation.
