Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren has decried the high rate of teenage pregnancies among school going girls.
According to Kamuren the high rate of teenage pregnancies is posing a serious threat to girl child education in the region.
The lawmaker said if there was need for legislation to curb the menace, then they are ready as lawmakers to do so.
“If they(Ministry of Education) still need assistance in terms of legislation, we are very much willing as Members of the National Assembly to amend where necessary,”he said.
The lawmaker appealed to parents of girls who have fallen victims of early pregnancies to take them back to school to ensure continue with their education.
Kamuren, who spoke in Marigat during the flag off of the Elimu Scholarship program, said it was important for stakeholders to team up in the fight against teenage pregnancies to safeguard the future of the girl child.
56 students from Baringo South Constituency benefited from the scholarship program, sponsored by World Bank through the Ministry of Education and Equity Group Foundation.
