West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo has been elected as the Chairperson of Arid and Semi Arid Lands(ASAL) committee at the Council of Governors.
Governor Lonyangapuo was elected to the committee whose key mandate is to offer a platform for consultation on key issues such as contingency planning for drought and other associated risks.
The committee’s mandate encompasses sharing of best practices, review of policy and legal proposal on issues of food security and drought management in Arid and Semi Arid Lands.
Governor Lonyangapuo welcomed his appointment which he termed a great honor.
“It’s a great honour to be elected Chairperson ASAL Counties,” said Lonyangapuo
He pledged to ensure priority needs in ASAL counties are acted upon.
“I strive to represent the interests of the 29 ASAL counties to ensure their priority needs acted upon for sustainable development,” added the governor.
