Turkana County Governor Josphat Nanok has welcomed the appointment of Congolese National Raouf Mazou as Assistant High Commissioner for operations, United Nations High Commission for Refugees(UNHCR).
Through his Twitter Handle, Governor Nanok said he at one time worked with Mr Mazou on Kalobeyei Integrated Social Economic Development Programs.
“Congratulations Raouf Mazou . Having closely worked with you on innovating solutions for protracted refugee situations as in the case of Kalobeyei Integrated Social Economic Development Programme in Turkana Kenya, you have what it takes to excel in this new global appointment,”posted Nanok.
The appointment of Mazou was announced in a communication by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Mazou will succeed George Okoth-Obbo of Uganda who has been appointed as Secretary to the High-Level Panel on Internal Displacement.
