Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has hinted at backing his deputy Daniel Chemno to succeed him.
Governor Mandago who spoke on Wednesday at a wedding in Kesses Sub County, warned those angling to succeed him stating that if Chemno was to gun for the top county seat then he will support him.
He said Chemno is capable of managing county government affairs.
“Where is another Deputy Governor who is loyal and able to run county affairs like Chemno? If he vies then you should know he has my backing,”said Mandago.
The governor has been playing the succession cards close to his chest, keeping residents guessing about his preferred successor.
He has had a very cordial working relationship with Chemno unlike other counties where overambitious deputy governors have sought to oust their bosses.
The new development will set the stage for a major political battle for the seat.
Those who were eyeing to succeed Mandago will now be forced back to the drawing board.
Those who have so far declared interest in the seat include Kenyan Ambassador to Pakistan Julius Bitok and Jonathan Bii.
