I have today learnt with great sadness the passing on of retired 2nd President of the Republic of Kenya, Mzee Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.
On behalf of residents of Turkana County and the County Government of Turkana, I wish to convey our sincere condolences to the Moi family and all Kenyans as we mourn one of Kenya’s founding fathers.
Mzee Moi will be remembered for the peace and national unity that dominated his 24-year reign, his focus on empowerment of the peace through investment in education and for setting an example in one of few peaceful transitions of power witnessed in Africa when he left the Presidency in 2002.
His entry into politics from a humble background, and longevity in the face of great opposition is a testament to Late President’s tenacity and exceptional dedication to achieving his lifetime goal.
Mzee Moi’s contribution to the history and development of Kenya will never be forgotten.
In his honor, the Turkana County Government flag at all institutions and offices shall fly at half-mast throughout this period of National mourning.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
Josphat Koli Nanok,
Governor, Turkana County.
