The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret will in ten days start conducting tests for the Novel Corona Virus. This comes after the successful updating into COVID-19-testing-capable, the ROCHE Machine testing equipment at MTRH/AMPATH Centre, which has a capacity to test 960 samples in an 8 hour shift.
This comes a week after a request by NOREB Governors and subsequent approval by the National Government to fully support the Eldoret based referral hospital to offer COVID-19 testing and training services in the region.
In a statement released yesterday after a meeting between NOREB Governors led by Jackson Mandago of Uasin Uasin who is also the NOREB interim chairman, MTRH Board Chair Joseph Lagat and CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa and other stakeholders, MTRH has constituted a core team of trained personnel who have started rolling out training to County health personnel, the Police Service and National Government Administration Officers.
The Govenors called upon the National Government to expedite the distribution of
certified PPEs and other COVID-19 prevention and management essentials.
They advised residents to continue staying home and heed the dusk to dawn curfew set to be imposed as from today, saying it will be strictly enforced.
