The County Government of Turkana have slapped Geonet technologies, the contractor laying the fiber cable from Kapenguria to Lodwar with an invoice worth Sh93 million.
This comes after the contractor refused to pay Sh1,000 per metre in laying of fibre optic cables along Kapenguria to Lodwar and 40,200 Kenya shillings as a single business permit as stipulated by finance act 2019.
In a letter written to the contractor, the County Government of Turkana through the Directorate of Revenue, has requested the contractor to pay the amount before they resume their works of laying the fiber optic cable to a distance of 93KMs.
”The Turkana County Finace Act 2019 stipulates payment of wayleave in laying fiber optic cable as Sh1,000 per meter. In addition all contracted and sub-contracted companies operating within the county are required to pay Sh40,200 as single business permit to operate within the county,” the letter reads.
“The Directorate of Revenue has since issued with an invoice of Sh93, 040,200 herewith attached for immediate payment before you resume your works for laying fiber optic cable for a distance of 93KMs. ”
“Kindly note that by this letter you are adviced to stop any works of laying fiber optic cable until payment is made,” the letter concludes.
