Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital(MTRH) CEO Dr Wilson Aruasa has confirmed that the coronavirus patient, reported to be from Uasin Gishu County, is admitted at the facility.
Responding to queries on the matter, Dr Aruasa said the patient is in stable condition.
“Patient remains stable under MTRH care. The MTRH Care team are evaluating her and will put her on appropriate management as per the Ministry of Health/ WHO/ MTRH COVID-19 Management Protocols,” said Dr Aruasa.
He said the samples of the patient had been taken to KEMRI labs and received the covid-19 positive result today.
According to the CEO, the patient was put on isolation Unit on Monday 6th, April 2020.
“This is the first positive test result out of the over 105,000 persons screened at MTRH todate, of whom 70 have been subjected to evaluation and 24 had swabs taken for testing,” the CEO pointed out.
The patient has also been identified as a middle-aged lady who had been in Britain for two weeks and traveled through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport(JKIA) to Eldoret International Airport on 22nd March, 2020.
It is reported that she went on quarantine for 14 days at her place in Eldoret, where she has been staying alone with a househelp.
The MTRH and Uasin Gishu County surveillance teams have been deployed to trace possible contacts.
