The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has opened investigations on the Uasin Gishu county government over alleged irregular purchase of the National Bank building at a cost of Sh568 million.
In a letter addressed to the County Secretary, the anti-graft body is seeking information on the allegations of the irregular procurement of the building in Eldoret town.
EACC has now demanded that the County Government furnishes them with the tender documents including the approved procurement plan for the purchase of the building.
The agency’s North Rift region Deputy Director Japhet Baithalu also wants the devolved unit to provide the notification of awards and regret letters to bidders and the letter of acceptance of notification of award.
Further, the anti-graft body has demanded for the government evaluation report for the building.
In the letter dated 8th May 2020, EACC also called for the suspension of the purchase until investigations are concluded.
Last week the county assembly hurriedly approved a proposal by Governor Jackson Mandago’s administration for the purchase, amid bribery claims.
However, residents have opposed the deal which they term as a blatant wastage of public resources.
