Combative Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has torn into Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago over the planned purchase of the National Bank building at a cost of Sh568 million.
The MP accused the County Boss of taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to execute the purchase against the wishes of residents.
“Don’t take advantage of the current state of Covid-19 pandemic to implement things that are against the wish of residents of Uasin Gishu County,” the legislator said in his scathing post on social media.
On Thursday, the county assembly approved the purchase of the building amid claims that they were compromised. The move has ignited heated reactions from citizens.
In a direct swipe against Governor Mandago, Sudi said the county has enough land to build facilities and should not waste its resources. He warned the governor against leading the county in what he termed ‘Uhuru way’ since he is doing his second and final term.
“Governor Jackson Mandago please don’t purchase National Bank building at a whopping cost of 570M because we don’t have fools in Uasin Gishu County. We all know that the county has enough land to build its facilities. Do you know what 100M shillings can build? Unless you have never built anything,” said Sudi.
The lawmaker said Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua had built a state-of-the-art county offices using only Sh300 million.
According to the County government’s plan the building will house staff offices. The Sh568 million will be broken down to Sh400 million for the purchase of land while Sh158 million is for the acquisition of the building.
