Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has warned against move to reopen schools during this coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking on Monday when he distributed cheques to needy students, Amisi said the decision to reopen schools should be put on hold.
According to the lawmaker, it won’t be easy to prevent the spread of the virus in schools since it will be hard for children to observe measures set out.
“It is not possible for children to observe some of the measures of social distancing, children play together, hug and will forget to wear masks,” said Amisi.
The lawmaker said cases of Covid-19 in the country are increasing daily and re-opening schools is risky.
“No schools should open until the virus is fully eradicated or brought under control in the country,” he said.
He said the government should reconsider its decision and only reopen institutions of higher learning since adults can adhere to laid down regulations on curbing the spread of the pandemic.
