The political dispute between West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and County Assembly Speaker Catherine Mukenyang has escalated after the county executive withdrew official vehicles assigned to the Majority and Minority Leaders.
Through a letter by the Acting County Secretary John Karamunya, the two vehicles have been recalled and the County Assembly Clerk directed to surrender them by close of business on Friday 5th June.
“..you are hereby directed to surrender all the vehicles used by the Majority and Minority Leaders by close of business on 5th June, 2020 at the County Headquarters. Remit all the work tickets of the vehicles surrendered,” read part of the letter to the clerk.
The letter pointed out that the two Assembly leaders are not entitled to County vehicles but monthly mileage allowance, which caters for both car maintained and fuel.
The move is seen an heightened fight between the Governor and Speaker. The duo have been battling over the leadership of the house which is currently under the control of the speaker.
Governor Lonyangapuo is pushing for the removal of the house leadership, a move that was overturned by the KANU party headquarters.
