Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margaret Kamar has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate after four of her competitors pulled out of the race.
Four Senators who returned their nomination papers, withdrew from the race for the election of the office of Deputy Speaker. Therefore, Sen. Prof. Margaret Kamar has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate.

Kamar replaces Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki who was removed from the plum position after he was voted out by 54 out 67 Senators following sweeping changes in house leadership sanctioned by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kamar, a first-term senator, was sworn into office afternoon today Tuesday, June 2nd, at Parliament buildings, Nairobi.
