Uasin Gishu County Women Rep Gladys Boss Shollei on Wednesday joined other women leaders in condemning police brutality at City Hall.
In her statement after visiting Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu who was captured by cameras being beaten by four armed police officers, Shollei defended Members of County Assembly saying City Hall has turned into a war zone because of rogue police officers.
“The only reason City Hall has turned into a war zone is because of police brutality, I haven’t seen the MCAs clobbering anybody with rungus. I have seen the police clobbering people with rungus, and a police officer kicking a woman on the ground,”said Shollei.
The County Woman MP called on Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to arrest and charge the officers who attacked the unarmed Woman MCA.
“The Inspector General Mutyambai must take full responsibility for what happened. By now we would be expecting that those officers should be in court because what they did was not only barbaric and primitive but also a criminal offense,”added Shollei.
During the fracas at City Hall, police lobbed teargas canisters on the Members of the County Assembly who had assembled to submit documents to the Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
The chaos saw several people injured including Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu, a situation that has led to a myriad of criticism on the conduct of the police.
