Turkana North MP Chris Nakuleu on Wednesday sought a statement over increased crocodile attacks along Lake Turkana.
The lawmaker sought to know from the Cabinet Secretary for Wildlife and Tourism Keriako Tobiko on the measures in place to contain crocodile attacks on human beings along the lake.
Nakuleu said the attacks have increased particularly in Kalokol, Eliye, Namukuse, Lokitoe-ang’aber and Nachukul areas.
The lawmaker also wants the Ministry to compensate families who have lost their loved ones to the crocodile attacks.
“Could the Ministry consider compensating families of the persons hei have lost their lives as a result of the said crocodile attacks including a young man named Peter Dong’ol from Kalosep area, Katoboi location, Turkana North Constituency who lost his life following an attack on 25th February, 2020?” Nakuleu said in his request for a statement.
The legislator pointed out that fishing and tourism has been negatively affected by the crocodile attacks and that the Ministry should put in place measures to ensure safe navigation by fishermen and tourist in Lake Turkana.
