Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno on Friday morning flagged off 16.5 tons of foodstuff to be distributed to one thousand vulnerable households in the county.
The donations were received from Last Resort Foundation, Parklands Mosque and Madrassa Trust through the auspices of Red Cross Kenya.
Speaking during the function, Chemno lauded The Red Cross for the support they have extended to the County during the Coronavirus Pandemic period.
The food donation will be distributed to identified households in Kambi Turkana, Kambi Teso, Chebaiywo, Kamkunji, and Langas with each family receiving approximately 16.5 Kilograms of donations.
The donations comprise cereals, pulses and washing soap.
Speaking on behalf of Red Cross, Pallan Lalchand who is the Nairobi Regional Chairman said that their organization is working on another batch of donations consisting 2,000 face masks for the vulnerable households as well as food donations to Eldoret Rescue Centre.
Present during the flag-off were County Secretary Edwin Bett, Chief Officer for Health Services Joseph Keroney and Mohammed Mwabudzo Assistant County Commissioner- Turbo Sub-county.
